Mission Reports: Rollover Item Recovery

On Thursday the 18th, a team from Colorado 4×4 Rescue and Recovery went to an undisclosed location to help retrieve personal belongings and valuables from a vehicle rollover that occurred earlier in the week.

The driver had to hike out carrying his dog on his back, both with injuries, for a few miles to get help after the accident occurred.

Multiple team members with scree skills were on scene to assist. They setup some rope lines to get up and down the nearly 45 to 50 degree slope in the snow, and shuttle personal belongings up to the top of the hill. The vehicle is some 200+ feet down the embankment.

The team was able to find almost all of the personal belongings such as wallet with ID, tools, personal gear etc. As snow melts and conditions improve, recovery options will be further evaluated. But as of right now this operation is not possible with the snow conditions on the ground, and the lack of safe options for winching.
