Mission Reports: Snow recoveries galore!

While the spring melt begins, the snow recoveries tick up rapidly!

Multiple operations to report in the last 3-4 days as folks are getting caught off guard by warm daytime temperatures softening the top ice layer you might drive in on in the morning… only to find out you can’t get any traction or stay on top of it in the afternoon.

Rollins pass, yankee hill, mosquito gulch, and steven’s gulch are all deceptively passable in the morning hours, but not passable at all in the afternoon. Colorado snow is just not cooperative most of the time to support the weight of 5000-10000 pound vehicles.

Be careful out there and always make sure you have an emergency kit in your vehicle, conditions can be bad enough that we can’t even reach you! Be prepared for a hike out and to let your vehicle sit until conditions warrant a safer recovery!
