Mission Reports: Swamped Rigs!

A few operations to report on this week!

The uptick in ice covered trails and snow recoveries continues. Strongly encourage you to NOT travel downhill on the snow covered trails unless you have the means to get yourself back up them. Numerous people have been trapped on the cold downhill ice covered slopes in the Idaho Springs area, and it will take us quite some time to get to you traveling those same ice and snow covered routes.

If you do go out, extra food, water, and warm clothing could be the difference between survival and well… not. Please take this seriously as conditions can change extremely fast this time of year. Wind chills can go well below zero extremely quickly. And your hike out or wait for help can be life threatening. We also went back to a hot spot on Hackett Gulch. A Jeep crossed the river and flooded itself out, they were able to winch to the other side of the creek, but were unable to start the hydro-locked engine.

We towed the vehicle up and out of the trail where a commercial tow truck could access it, and get it back into town for repairs.

Please remember those trails are closed at the park county line. Please respect this closure so we can keep these trails open on the Teller County side for all to use. Highly recommend digital trail mapping programs like Gaia GPS, onx offroad, etc to make sure you’re on legal open routes, and verifying with the USFS MVUM (motor vehicle use map) before venturing out on any offroad trip.
