Mission Reports: Blizzard Operations

On Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 12:00p Colorado 4×4 Rescue & Recovery deployed 80+ volunteers to cover multiple operational periods over the next 48 hours. This is in response to calls for assistance from hospitals to transport critical health care personnel to work, assist stranded motorists, and our mission to rescue people stuck on back country 4WD trails.

Operational planning began on earlier in the week on Wednesday and included daily calls with the National Weather Service, coordination with local law enforcement and emergency management, and a dozen health care facilities spanning Fort Collins to Colorado Springs and Clear Creek County to Sterling.

To support this effort we will be running a virtual incident command center with our volunteer command staff 24 hours a day until Monday, March 15, 2021 at 12:00p. We ask that those who are able: please stay home, stay warm, and stay safe to minimize the impacts and risks associated with this storm, and to limit the need for first responders and our volunteers to put themselves in danger.
